Five Fun Facts with Alex Greif
Indie-synth pop artist and all-around creative soul Alex Greif opens up with his Five Fun Facts. His new single "Waiting for You" speaks of not settling for anything but the best and keeping his standards high, as it should be! It's clear to see that he has come a long way since being bullied quite a bit while growing up. He has learned to embrace what makes him unique to fulfill what he says is his purpose- to spread the message of love, freedom, and compassion.
Read what he shared with us below:
One time I booked a flight to Barcelona after reaching the bottom of a wine bottle. I love to travel and curating my own attempt at Instagram worthy photos. I get super present, curious, and find new appreciation in my surroundings. It inspires me as an artist from an emotional perspective.
2. I like to have full creative control over my work. I like using bold ideas and concepts that challenge me to be more and more expressive in each project I develop. For a long time, I was really ashamed of who I was and how my authenticity made other people uncomfortable. I was bullied a lot growing up and through all that suppression I lost touch with who I was for a while. Nowadays I find myself reclaiming my identity through my creativity and rediscovering my voice and confidence.
3. My latest release “Waiting for You” was completely my own work. From production to songwriting to singing. A fun fact about how it ultimately came together was utilizing feedback from other artists I respect and using it to improve my song structure. I would email them my drafts and they would tell me how to fill in the gaps.
4. I work in the film and media industry as an Assistant Camera and Videographer. I met the DP (Director of Photography) of my music video for "Waiting for You" on set of a short film. We vibed and eventually collaborated after many coffee dates. It isn't always easy to find other creatives who walk the walk and show up to create something or support a vision we can all be proud of.
5. I'm pretty sure I'm an Ambivert. I have extroverted moments, but I also experience introverted periods. It can become confusing to navigate, but I try to push myself towards my extroverted energy more often. I think the reason I'm an ambivert stems from my desire to show up and be seen coupled with an inner fear of dealing with other judgment from people. It might be a self-defense mechanism or a way to protect myself from any sort of rejection or getting the impression people don't take me seriously or think I'm enough. Something I've said before, that I hope to live by, is to become something like the Mother Theresa of music or my creativity in general. Basically, I would feel so fulfilled to humbly touch many lives through my work. I know I'm here to ultimately spread the message of love, freedom, and compassion.- Alex Greif
