REVIEW: "One Day At A Time (Baby)" by Jake Stopar

Chicago- home of The Pitchfork Music Festival (which, I’m guessing will not be happening in July?) and also home of the apparently very legit Portillo’s hot dogs (which my former roommate used to get express shipping to our Harlem apartment . . . can you tell I’ve been eating too much of my own quarantine home cooking?)

I digress. It’s home of indie musician Jake Stopar. He’s got this fresh little nugget dropping today to meet all of your shelter-in-place needs. Along with Kraft Mac & Cheese, good music is undoubtedly helping us through these bizarre times.

Having sat in with blues legends such as (mild flex) Buddy Guy and Marty Sammon, there is no doubt that Stopar knows his way around a guitar neck. He is also the current guitar player for soulful/blues outfit The North And Wells Band.

But this EP-teaser “One Day At A Time (Baby)” has especially piqued my interest. With a bumping drum track and wobbly chorus guitar vibes, it’s perfect for that 5 in the afternoon spliff.

Maybe it’s the White Claw talking, but I’d venture to say that simplicity is a true test for any songwriter.  With only a few short stanzas, Stopar is decisively setting a mood, and I’m excited to see what other stories he has to tell.

“This feeling can consume you”, Jake sings. We can definitely all relate right about now.
