SONG PREMIERE: "Next Time" by Quinn Oulton

Quinn Oulton

“A Slice Of Hazy Soul-Pop.”

UK native Quinn Oulton was inspired at an early age by his father's records, which instilled a yearning for exploring the jazz scene, blues, folk, and rock music as an artist himself. Since his EP in 2017, Quinn has been exploring his role as an instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer with unique sounds and vocals in every song he creates.

Quinn has slowly mastered his story-telling abilities through his music since starting his journey of becoming a self-produced artist and instrumentalist. His evolution as an artist took off from his place at the 2018 Red Bull Music Academy, where he discovered his knack for electronic music culture. As he works to combine his jazz and blues roots with his more recently discovered electronic talent, Quinn has been creating for himself a unique discography that may connect with a wide array of listeners in search of a new and distinct sound.

I think “Next Time” was the only time I’ve written a complete song in one sitting. I wrote it in about 15 minutes, sitting on the Northern Line. I heard the chords and the production in my head and typed it all out on my phone. It was an immediate reaction to what was going on at that moment, and it seemed to just spill out in a very natural way. I decided not to change any of the words, to keep it as true as possible to how I was processing my feelings at the time.

"Next Time" is part of Oulton's album 'Alexithymia', released today, and it perfectly reflects Quinn's artistry. With the slow, patient lead-up to the intense chorus, the unique sound of Quinn's music echoes through his song. "Next Time" is an alternative, soulful expression of processing emotions. The passion is felt in the song's chorus with the abrupt change in tempo and mood from the ominous verses orchestrating the track.

Quinn shares, "I think a lot of people, particularly men, struggle to recognize and process their own emotions. It makes it very hard to share them with others, and it's something that needs addressing to allow for healthier relationships with other people and yourself." He truly accomplishes the act of sharing his emotions with the audience. It is a perfect song for those looking to escape reality through music and reminds us how powerfully reflective music can be in our own lives.
