SONG PREMIERE: "Edith / Francisco" by Five Mile Float
The lo-fi indie-pop outfit, Five Mile Float has released a new track... or is it two new tracks? No complaints here, the more the merrier.
IndieWavves is proud to premiere "Edith" with its melodic and peculiar pop inflection, and "Francisco" with its more acoustic, stripped-down sound.
What caught our attention, aside from their instrumentally dynamic music, was the meaning behind the track. "We wrote "Edith" last fall as we were in the midst of moving from our hometown of Albuquerque, NM to Philadelphia. The song captures the emotional highs and lows we experienced at the time -- the joy and hopefulness of a new beginning, the sadness and dread of leaving loved ones behind, and the universal struggle of putting the pieces together to determine exactly "who we are" as individuals, especially as we enter this new period of our lives" they shared with us.
Now tell us you can't relate to that!?
They were right about capturing the high and lows in terms of sound. "Edith" is upbeat in its foundation as it masks gloomy lyrics such as "Don't you lie, you know we're never going to be together" and "don't you cry for someone like me." Both tracks have their own story to tell yet compliment each other beautifully.
Now we won't lie, you will be singing along by the second time you listen to both tracks. Or if you're like me, you'll be singing along by the second chorus of "Edith" on the very first listen.
Make sure to keep an eye out for more music from them this year. We certainly cannot wait to see what they release next!
