SONG PREMIERE: "Appetite" by Barney Cortez

The latest track by musician-producer Barney Cortez has just dropped, and we are happy to premiere it! The single is called "Appetite" and was produced at home with Harry Zelnick and mixed by Lotus bassist Jesse Miller.

"This song is inspired by 80's synth-pop, post-punk, and the feelings that cause a person to binge on things and always crave more" shared Cortez. The title seems fitting as the lyrics read: "I can't sleep at night, such an appetite, I'm so hungry, hungry, hungry..." And if the words alone don't make you gravitate towards this song, then it's 80's vibe definitely will.

"Appetite" is right on-brand for Cortez as he's known for his subterranean songs dealing with love, lust, alienation, addiction, and freedom. It's clear to hear his influences such as Lou Reed, Prince, and Joni Mitchell, to name a few, as he manages to distill the music of several eras and styles to make them his own. Cortez's next release, EP "Playboys in Hell," displays this in full effect.

It's not because he hasn't been around or just started out if you hadn't heard of him until now. He's also a member of the psych-rock band The Rich Mystics with Nick Bockrath (Cage The Elephant). He's even recorded and played for artists such as The Roots and Wiz Khalifa.
