Sunny and warm Los Angeles, California is home to Hollywood, where picture-perfect illusions are manufactured and sold regularly. We've all heard the stories of how you can move to "Tinseltown" and become the superstar you've always dreamt of becoming. Nowadays, thanks to social media and people speaking up about what it truly takes to make those dreams a reality, many have a more realistic expectation. Or at least we hope they do.
One artist being candid about her journey in finding superstardom is Boh Doran. The L.A.-based singer-songwriter, producer, and mom of one is no stranger to the hustle of making your dreams a reality. Her new single "Superstar", being released tomorrow, showcases just that. "This song is about chasing an authentic dream but losing sight of what drove me to chase that dream in the first place. It paints Los Angeles as a world in which I succumb to the ego/superficiality of it and throw up my white flag. I "give up the ghost," aka the "keeping up with the Joneses" mentality. I also surrender my need to ladder climb in the entertainment artist factory and find myself surrounded by other artists who want to become "famous" but find themselves drowning in self-pity, self-destruction, and confusion," shares Boh.
With influences ranging from Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morrissette, and Third Eye Blind, to name a few, "Superstar" depicts the better parts of Doran's production. "A 90s alternative inspired earworm of a track that deals with deeply personal themes in an utterly relatable way." Relatable being the magic word as Boh Doran is known for her strong songwriting and beautiful vocals. Not to mention her creative direction, which helps bring her music to life.
