REVIEW: "I'll Be Ok" by Soul Candy

Oh, hey again,

Before you nuke that old pizza slice, wash it down with rosé, and listen to the undeniably trite "Stuck with U" by Ariana and Justin… I've got a better idea. Check out this new banger "I'll Be Ok" by indie innovator Soul Candy.

I might even venture to say that 'candy wave' is the new vaporwave. We've got some fresh electronic sounds on this one, nostalgic lo-fi guitar, and modulation on the chorus vocal part that is (I can't resist) like candy to the ears.

Quick urban legend: there were rumors in the mid-90s of Daft Punk cassette demos surfacing in the East Village before the album 'Homework' being released, and in turn, bringing attention to a new flavor of house music.

I'm having that same feeling of newfound excitement as I peruse the hidden gems that are Soul Candy's recent Spotify releases. With a combination of production chops and live instrument stylings, this is the type of artist that I'd be elated to stumble upon at Baby's All Right, and would instantly save his singles to a playlist on my phone in fear of forgetting.

"I'll Be Ok" is creating a joyfully bittersweet vibe with its irresistible head-bobbing beat and nostalgic embellishments. I'm also digging the vocal delivery, which is reminiscent of the better part of Beck's catalog.

Mr. Candy's single speaks for itself, though. Now go turn it up and dance in your living room!
