REVIEW: "Thinkin' About You" by Max Viner feat. L00Z, Gibs

A Summer Piece Full Of Good Vibes.
"Thinkin' About You" is the latest new single by up and coming Russian-American artist Max Viner, alongside Indonesian-American artists DJ Gibs and LA indie artist L00Z. Full of both pep and melancholy reflection, "Thinkin' About You" feels like an easy Sunday morning with the same kind of heart and emotion we've come to expect from Viner. "The song was inspired by the movie The Great Gatsby," Max writes, "Thinkin' About You" is a summer piece that will make your day energetic and full of good vibes."
Unlike Max's previous single, "My Dear Friend," which featured JON BOY and Jersey shore indie artist Taylor Tote on backing vocals, this new track serves as a much more tonally optimistic tune. However, both songs revolve around similar themes of encouragement and hope following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Viner has had an incredibly busy year. In addition to "Thinkin' About You" and "My Dear Friend," Max has even found the time to release multiple remixes of his 2020 single "New Normal." One of such remixes even includes DJ Gibs, who would later work with Viner on this new track, and was aptly dubbed the "Gibs Remix."

One of the many things I love about Max Viner is his unfettered optimism, even at times of great difficulty and hardship. Of course, many artists in the indie community have struggled throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and have been unable to perform and collaborate due to health and safety guidelines. Nonetheless, Max has been able to remain busy and even been able to include hope for a better future post-pandemic as a theme in his music.
Earlier this year, he told us that, "The pandemic wasn't easy, but it made me stronger. It gave me the time to understand what I want to say with my music. I believe that this is the gift that life provided for everyone - to find oneself." I greatly admire Viner's ability to find a silver lining of his time in lockdown and based on the new single "Thinkin' About You," this quote clearly remains true today.
"Thinkin' About You" is a super catchy and honestly very well put together tune, mixed beautifully by Viner, who writes, produces, mixes, and composes his own music. I really appreciate how his music has evolved since his popular song "In the City" dropped back in 2018, and even the way his music has changed following "My Dear Friend," which was released only a few months back.
Viner has embraced many different genres of new music; whether it be synthwave style beats akin to Beach House or Slowdive, or the Gorillaz-Esque melancholy electronica we hear on "Thinkin' Bout You," Max has indeed embraced trying new sounds and techniques, continuously improving on his own music, song by song.
In April, Max told us that he was working on his first full-length album and that the themes of that record would include working through the Covid-19 pandemic, the fight for racial justice, and adjusting to this country as an immigrant from Russia. After hearing his previous 2021 singles and enjoying "Thinkin' About You" so much, I can't wait to listen to what Viner comes up with next.
I am absolutely positive that Viner will do great things in the future and continue to put out catchy, meaningful follow-ups to his brand new single. That being said, before I get too far ahead of myself, I am just as excited to lay back, pop my headphones in, and bask in the musical tranquility of "Thinkin' About You."
