Q&A with Fior

If you haven't heard of Fior yet, don't worry, it's not because you have been living under a rock. It's because she is our latest discovery, thanks to our wonderful community that keeps us in the loop, and a rising star that you can now say you heard of on IndieWavves first.

Fior is the stage name of independent artist Zoe Fioravanti, who makes sleek, beat-driven, pop-infused music with funk, soul, disco, and rock elements. Fior means both flower and truth, and as you're about to find out, the name perfectly suits her. She is as beautiful as a flower, and real-life inspires her music. Her lyrics display vulnerability and strength, while her agile vocals add layers of emotion. Take her debut single, "Let Me Go", as an excellent example as it's a defiant anthem about creating freedom by breaking cycles.

Fior's distinct, self-taught style was influenced by Stevie Nicks, Cher, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Michael Jackson. Quite literally, all the greats! Fior also reveals who she was influenced by while creating her upcoming album and who she has been listing to lately. Along with what truly inspired "Let Me Go", which by the way, has a music video you can conveniently check out below. Fior has landed on our radar, and she's here to stay. We cannot wait to see where her career takes her because she is going places, and we will be watching.

IndieWavves: Hi Zoe, how are you after releasing your debut single, "Let Me Go"? How are you feeling? :)

Fior: I feel incredible! I'm getting such great feedback, and people are sharing their personal stories about how this song resonates with them. I couldn't be happier that I'm connecting to people worldwide through my music. I'm literally over the moon!

IWWhat inspired the track?

F: "Let Me Go" was inspired by a relationship that ended three years ago. Over the past three years, there has been a constant cycle of the boy that I loved pulling me back in yet never fully wanting to commit. This song is a breakthrough in the cycle I was continuously falling for.

IWDo you often write from your experiences?

F: I always write from my own experiences. I guess you could say music is my diary. It's very therapeutic for me. It's how I cope with my emotions and express my feelings and desires.

IWHas it always been easy for you to speak your mind personally and through music?

F: I've always had a tough time expressing my feelings through conversation, but never through music. Music is my love language.

IWWhat can we expect from your full-length debut album?

F: You can expect a really great mix of pop, soul, R&B, and rock 'n' roll. I'm very proud of all of the songs I have completed so far.

IWWho were you listening to while you created your album?

F: Adele, Tyler the Creator, SZA, KAYTRANADA, Alice in Chains, Willow, and I love Miley and Noah Cyrus!

IWWho are you listening to now? (a song you've recently been obsessed with)

F: "Drink Before the War" by Sinead O'Connor — it's from 1987, way before I was born, but I'm obsessed with it!
