Five Fun Facts with THALA
There isn't much about Berlin-based artist Thala that you can find aside from her dreamy songs and a couple of other website articles. That is because she is an up and comer with a bright future ahead of her. We had the honor of being one of the first to feature her songs when she initially landed on our radar with "Moonlight Shadows". Since then, Thala was picked up by Duchess Box Records (Germany) and signed to Born Loser Records (USA) - proud is an understatement!
One can describe her sound as a combination of soothing vocals and introspective lyrics mixed in with retro 70s and 80s vibes. If you're a fan of sounds by Mazzy Star, Cigarettes After Sex, and Beach House, then you'll more than enjoy Thala's music. Her latest offering, "Takemeanywhere", a collaboration with producer Michael Kümper, takes us to carefree pre-pandemic beach days where we wished summer would never come to an end. Here is what the singer said about the track: "Initially, I've written "Takemeanywhere" thinking about how many people must be longing to go back in time, hoping they'd be able to change certain conversations or happenings of any kind for the better. After it was fully written and produced, I sat together with the people I teamed up with to shoot the music video, and I realized that it could be perceived as many things. Especially now, it creates this feeling of longing actually to be able to go somewhere at all. Out of your own apartment walls to wherever. Basically anywhere."
And while we wait for everything to go back to some type of normalcy where we’ll be able to travel and go anywhere, you can get acquainted with the artist and learn a bit more about who she is. Trust us, this won’t be the last time you hear of her. Here are our Five Fun Facts with Thala:
I have this weird habit, or, need to arrange my room's furniture and interior at like 2 am. My neighbors must hate me because this includes moving my bed from A to B, which is super loud on old wooden flooring. And I simply can't stop until the job is done, even if that means it'd be like 4 am. (weird-ass)
I am a former scuba dive instructor and initially had in mind to become a marine biologist because of that. Specialized in reef and shark protection, I would have dived in the "field" for different kinds of operations, protecting the wildlife. But then one magical open mic changed my life, you could say. And yes, it's as romantic as it sounds—all of it.
I absolutely LOVE mushrooms these days. Back when I was a kid, I hated them. Now I eat them raw. I am not even kidding. Obviously, I don't mean those kinds of mushrooms, yeah? ( just making sure, haha)
During the pandemic, I picked up painting again, and I would have never thought it'd feel so good. It's such a nice exchange from everything else. I put on some good music and start getting lost in colors and shapes and fades.
I am absolutely addicted to tea. It's my most favorite drink in the world. In winter, I drink it hot. In summer, I put it in the fridge, add some honey or lemons to make iced tea out of it. Also super cheap! It's way cheaper than soda or stuff like that. Besides the obvious, it is more healthy.
