Vocalist, songwriter, and producer Maddy Davis is the new voice of alt-pop's addictive genre-bending storytelling. Born and raised between calmer New Jersey suburbs and bustling New York City streets, Davis will soon be the industry's new favorite middle child.
Born into a musical family, Maddy quickly drew influence from her multi-instrumentalist mother, picking up the piano at a young age. Writing and production were not far around the corner. As Maddy reached high school, she began crafting her sound through early production projects. An ear influenced by rock legend Bruce Springsteen and alt/indie sounds, Maddy was looking for specific sounds she couldn't find elsewhere, so she made them herself.
Her upcoming EP 'MUD' was born from Maddy's successful release of her first single, "Can't Do This Alone" (200K+ Streams on DSPs), and her live show experiences pre and post pandemic. The pandemic allowed Davis to discover her authentic sound and craft a story for her music, a story that has turned into her debut project.
The single "Middle Kid" will mark the introduction to 'MUD'. The track is a carefully crafted pop/rock upbeat ballad reflecting young adulthood introspection and a reminder that things are going well no matter how often you think the opposite. "'Middle Kid' perfectly encapsulates the energy and themes of the project. It's the perfect setup and passage into the stories I tell with the EP", explained Maddy as she walked us through the forthcoming project.
The EP will embody themes of everyone's 20-somethings. Topics of dreaming big, moving fast, and not letting anyone tell you otherwise. 'MUD' will symbolize a young adult's struggle for independence and a hush to the fuzzy chaos of home life and relationships. The project also sustains an underlying sentiment of trying to be outspoken and fully express intimate emotions. It's a lot to be growing up too fast in the middle of everything – sometimes, all we need is a pat on our back with a whisper, "you're doing well". The six-track EP will release sometime in the second half of 2022, showcasing the budding artist's musical and artistic growth over the past couple of years—a project blending coming-of-age experiences and Maddy's musical journey.
