We have a song review from Telegraph Hill Records Annual Music Compilation "To Go" right in time for the holiday season. "Push On" by Alexander Simone & WhoDat? is one of the inspiring tracks released today from the New Jersey record label. The label delivered 15 + brand new tracks from its diverse catalog of established and rising stars and made sure to do it all safely because, well, Covid times. And yes, the COVID-19 twist is in the theme of the songs themselves, but not all the tracks are cathartic and dark.
"Push On" is the perfect example of an inspiring song that delivers a storyline of current political issues and hardships with upbeat instrumentals. As soon as the music starts, you can't help but think: "Damn, this must be so amazing live!" You know, music just hits different when you're experiencing it live, and let me tell you, Alexander & WhoDat know that very well and have made it their superpower.
With lyrics like, "Lately politics been slippin'/It's all a mix-up, don't know how to fix it/ another black man thrown in jail for the big bucks/ officer my hands were raised" prove that Simone comprehends the hardships of the world and isn't one to do nothing about it. He makes sure to shed light on some of today's pressing topics by expressing them through his music.
Alexander Simone is a musician and songwriter hailing from Asbury Park, New Jersey. He was raised in a religious household and naturally learned to play the piano by ear as his grandmother is the legendary "Nina Simone". It's true what they say about musical talent being passed down from one generation to the next. Simone is an artist who uses his music to encourage, uplift, and reflect the times while writing/producing records of all genres.
WhoDat? is "A league of extraordinary musicians from different parts of Jersey coming together in unity to create endless/timeless vibes through live music and artistic expression." Together, this group makes magical vibes with Simone's lyrics and catchy hooks and the band's superhuman ability to express themselves through their instruments. Ugh, it makes us miss live music so, so much!
The music Alexander Simone & WhoDat? create truly touches everyone it reaches. "Push On" has left us with an excellent message for the beginning of a new year. Yes, life won't always be easy or fair, but we MUST continue to push on. We have to push on for change, equality, and justice. Just keep on pushing; we gotta make it.
